Meet Dr. Julio Obando

Dr. Julio Obando, who hails from San Jose, Costa Rica, earned both his Doctor in Dental Surgery and Licentiate in Dentistry from the University of Costa Rica. He also studied Business Administration at the Hispanoamerican University. As a dental student, he stood out as President of the Association of Dental Students, a Student Assembly Representative, and a Teacher Assistant in Head and Neck Anatomy.

With a solid background in general dentistry after four years of practice, Dr. Obando shifted toward surgical specialties, research, periodontics, and implants. He completed a Post-doctoral Externship and then worked as a Research Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), focusing on the Genetic Basis of Gingival and Periodontal Pathologies. He followed this with a Periodontal Residency and earned a Master in Oral Sciences at UIC.

Dr. Obando is certified in IV sedation and holds Diplomate status in both Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery. A dedicated researcher, he has published extensively and contributed to Advances in Periodontal Surgery 2019.
